Authorities reported they were contacted by a man who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.

A high-ranking political figure commented the attack rendered him without words and required to be solved promptly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
