This action by the Democratic National Committee to block the release of its own post-election analysis on the 2024 election seems stunning yet to be expected. Averse to hard truths, the DNC often functions closer to a communications shop rather than an electoral entity devoted to cultivating local power capable of prevailing at the polls.
Reluctant to depart from the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the DNC has stayed under the Biden-Harris shadow throughout 2025. Making public such a report would have indicated whether party leaders truly desire to promote honest conversation regarding the strategic failures that paved the way for the former president to return to the White House. Yet, the committee is acting as if there's nothing to be learned following the stunning loss of 2024.
The top priority: is this good for winning elections? Should the answer be negative, it becomes a sideline issue from what truly matters," a justification that has been offered to justify concealing the analysis.
A genuine analysis with any value would tackle head-on a series of difficult topics. Among them are:
Choosing secrecy fits a recurring tendency of evading uncomfortable facts. It recalls an episode in which the vast majority of elected Democrat in Washington acquiesced to a sitting president's determination to running for re-election right up until a poor public debate performance compelled an exit.
At the same time, a significant majority of Democratic voters had been continually telling pollsters that they opposed that candidate to run again.
A substantive report could examine questions regarding campaign spending, such as the amounts went to party strategists as well as ad buyers over the course of a campaign which expended a staggering amount during the general election.
At its core, the blockage surrounding this report points to a submission toward the established hierarchy who engineered an unsuccessful national race. The signal to ordinary supporters – including millions of loyal volunteers – is that they cannot have a right to know what the leadership have learned based on a report compiled from conversations with insiders.
An organization unable to honestly assess its own failings will struggle to climb out of the rut that proved so helpful to the winning candidate.
