19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet saved four early opportunities in a tight final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
